Anatomy L.4 Flashcards
(38 cards)
The testis is suspended in the scrotum by what?
Spermatic cord
What allows free movement of the testes?
Serous fluid between visceral and parietal layers of the tunica vaginalis
The posterior aspect of the tunica albuginae is thickened as?
Mediastinum testes
What part of the testes produce sperms?
Seminiferous tubules
What divides the testes into lobules?
Septa arising from mediastinum testis
What is located within each lobule of the testes?
2-3 tightly coiled seminiferous tubules
What connects seminferous tubules to testes in mediastinum?
Straight tubules
What connects rete testes to the head of the epididymis?
Efferent ductules
What is the arterial blood supply to the testes?
Testicular artery
Through what structure does the testicular artery or it’s branches enter the testes?
Spermatic cord
What is the course through which the testicular artery enters the testes?
Posterior abdominal wall, deep inguinal ring, inguinal canal, superficial inguinal ring, spermatic cord
What artery does the testicular artery or its branch anastomose with?
Artery of ductus deferens (branch of inferior vesical artery)
Where does the right testicular vein drain into?
Inferior vena cava (right below the renal vein)
Where does the left testicular vein drain into?
Left renal vein
What occurs during varicocele?
Enlargement of pampiniform of plexus of veins
FYI:
Testicular vein and vein of epidydimis form pampiniform of venous plexus in spermatic cord (part of thermoregulatory system)
What are the lymphatics of testes?
To right and left lumbar (caval/aortic) and preaortic lymph nodes (at the level of origin of testicular artery)
Where do lymphatics from scrotum drain into?
Superficial inguinal nodes
What is the nerve supply to the testes?
Testicular plexus of nerves (on testicular artery)
Parasympathetic= vagus nerve
Sympathetic= T10 to T11 segments of SC (vasomotor)
Wha
What forms the head of the testes?
Coiled ends of the efferent ductules(12-14) of the rete testes
-head is composed of lobules
What reflexively draws the scrotum superiorly in response to cold?
Cremasteric muscle
What is the cremasteric msucle innervated by?
Genital branch of the genitofemoral nerve (L1,2)
What conveys sperm from epididymis to ejaculatory duct?
Ductus deferens
