3
Q

NEED TO KNOW….what are the earliest Pthological changes seen in SSc

A

changes in endothelial cell function with increased apoptosis, upregulation of MHC class II and upregulation of ICAM-1 (intracellular adhesion molecules)

4

BAD PROGNOSIS for SSc pts with lung disease

5
Q

Remember, the most basic problem in scleroderma is that fibroblasts are activated and they lay down riduiculous amounts of collagen.

A

ok

14
Q

ANticardiolipin leads to false

A

syphilis test

15
Q

lupus anti-coagulant leads to

A

False elevated PTT

16
Q

Lupus anticoagulant is named for its affect on PTT

A

It looks like you are prone to bleeding b/c of the PTT results. In reality, you are in a hypercoaguable state. May lead to DVT, hepatic Thrombosis, AND PLACENTAL THROMBOSIS….this causes the recurrent pregnancy loss

Long story short…anti-coag is a terrible name and you have to take an anticoagulant for your entire life.
