Antihypertensive (Heart ANT-and preload/afterload Flashcards
(40 cards)
Pathway of the heart is?
superior/inferior vena cava–> right atrium–> tricuspid valve–>right ventricle–>pulmonic valve–> pulmonary artery–>Lungs–>pulmonary veins–> left atrium–>mitral valve–>Left ventricle–> Aortic valve–> Aorta–>body
What are the four chambers of the heart
right atrium, right ventricle, left ventricle, right atrium
right side of heart is?
de-oxygenated (only a little of o2)
left side is?
oxygenated
veins carry?
de-oxygenated blood
arteries carry?
oxygenated blood
what is something that veins have that arteries don’t?
valves
Arteries don’t have
?
Valves
arteries features?
pulse felt, efferent (away the heart), in muscle, NO valves
vein features?
afferent (towards from heart), not muscular, near surface, HAS valves,
what artery is the ONLY one that carries de-oxygenated blood?
pulmonary artery
what vein is the ONLY one that carries oxygenated blood?
pulmonary vein (there’s 4)
Preload connects to?
starlings law (the more the heart fills (stretches), the stronger it contracts)
what is preload?
volume of blood (heart fills and stretch before it pumps)
what is afterload?
resistance (the pressure heart has to push against to get blood out)
what are the 4 valves?
tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral, aortic valve
what is the most “important” part of the heart?
Left ventricle (the thickest part, pumps O2 to body, thickest layer, pushes against resistance)
how do we measure LV pressure?
swan-garz catheter (balloon stops blood of pulmonary artery) [PCWP: pulmonary capillary wedge pressure]
swan-garz catheter measures?
measuing left sided pressures on right side of heart
what is the average mmHG of LV?
60%
all veins draining in what atrium?
RIGHT atrium CVP (central venous pressure (0-8mmHg)
high CVP means?
fluid overload (too much pressure)
-blood backs up due to no
pumping occuring
-LOCATED: Right atrium
wedge pressure too high means?
increased pressure L.S. of heart
