16
Q

what are cells that are called rubber bands?

A

pneumocytes or type 2 alveolar cells

17
Q

pharynx is shared with?

A

food and breathing

18
Q

trachea is made of?

A

Cartilage rings (c-shaped), can expand!
-not even

19
Q

trachea to bronchus connection is called?

20
Q

below the sternum but above the xiphoid process is called?

A

angle of louis

21
Q

left bronches is more?

22
Q

right bronchus is more?

23
Q

tubes inserted in airways must stop before?

24
Q

what is bronchus (bronchi plural)?

25
deadspace is?
the space where O2 is not being exchanged (everything but alveoli) -av. 150 ml
26
alveoli are connected by?
pores of Kohn (helps with alveoli gets clogged) -connects other alveoli
27
what cells are killed with smoking?
type 2 cells---> makes less surfactant
28
what is air trapping?
the "rubber band" (type 2 cells) does expand and air stays in lungs -COPD pt have this
29
what is the number one reason for COPD?
smoking
30
heart has what receptors?
beta 1 and alpha
31
the lungs have what receptor?
beta 2
32
what are the two diseases that are considered COPD?
emphysema and chronic bronchitis
33
what is emphysema?
alveoli becomes damaged and overstretched -causes: air being trapped-> hard to exhale -leads to destruction of alveolar walls
34
what is chronic bronchitis?
inflammation of the bronchi -S&S: cough, muscus
35
bronchiectasis is?
disintegration of bronchi -leads to death and vent.
36
what is cystic fibrosis
pancreas loses control --> enzymes of pancreas attacks lungs --> CASUES: leads to excess mucus (blocks airways and infection) --> affect mostly white ppl
37
what are symptoms of cystic fibrosis?
couhging, lung infx, trouble gaining weight
38
asthma is?
airway inflammation (allergic reaction)
39
what is a common symptom of emphysema?
SOB
