-causes include traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, alzheimer dementia or meningitis
AMS
Altered Mental Status
can arise from physiologic issue such as hypoglycemia, hypoxia, impaired cerebral blood flow, and hyper/hypothermia
-AMS may be an indicator of a psychiatric disorder such as bi-polar disease
Functional

-Anytime you encounter a emotionally depressed pt. you must consider the possibility of suicide
-look for risk factors
