MOI
index of suspicion is your awarness and conern for potentially serious unseen injuries
Multi-system trauma
when more than one body system is injured
platinum 10
minutes on scene time
Golden 60
minutes to reach definitive care
definitive care
treatment to conclusively manage patients condition
Trauma Centers
Level I: fully staffed specialty, normally colleges
Level II:
Level III:
Level IV: Can stabilize enough to transfer
p. 923 table 25-2
Blunt vs Penetrating
p.904, p.913
Blunt trauma: direct force to the body but leaves the surface intact
Penetrating Trauma: passes through the surface to injure underlying soft-tissue organs, and body cavities
-Punctures
-Impalements
Cavitation from a gun-shot wound(GSW)
Falls can be fatal
p.913
account for:
-height of fall
-type of surface struck
-part of body that hit first
falls
> 20ft are considered significant falls
pediactrics =>10ft or 2-3x childs height
questions for falls
- mechanical falls?(slip or trip)
- weakness led to fall
- syncopal episode
- LOC after impact
- take any blood thinners?

Bleeding
hemorrhage=bleeding
no perfusion means cells will begin
* 4-6 min in the heart
* 15-20 min in the lungs
* 45 min in the kidneys
* 3 hrs in skeletal muscle
Internal vs External
- blood will look different on different surfaces
- body cant tolerate losing more than 20% (2 pints or 1 liter) of blood
- don’t wait until the vital signs decrease to notice poor perfusion
