Ch 2: Monitor Resolution and Features Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is Maximum resolution?
the maximum number of pixels displayed horizontally multiplied by the number displayed vertically
What is an example of Maximum resolution?
1600 by 900 images look best at the native resolution as there is a one-to-one relationship between the monitor’s physical pixels and the number of monitor displays
What is Aspect Ratio?
ratio of width to height on a monitor
What is Refresh Rate?
number of times per second each pixel is refreshed
How might images appear at higher resolutions?
At lower resolutions?
Images are sharp at higher resolution but may appear fuzzy at lower resolutions
What was the common aspect ratio of a monitor in the past?
4 to 3, the same as for a standard definition TV
What aspect ratio does many new monitors have?
16 to 9, the same as for a widescreen high-definition TV
Which data unit is refresh rate measured in?
Hertz
Why was refresh rate important on CRT monitors?
refreshing pixels prevented display flicker
Is refresh rate needed to prevent display flicker on modern monitors?
No, the pixels stay at a consistent brightness all the time without being re energized
What is the typical refresh rate of LCD monitors?
Is this sufficient for most users?
about 60 Hz, which is sufficient for most users.
