Ch 42 Flashcards
(14 cards)
Describe signal conductance in heart to stimulate both atria to contract & then both ventricles
SA node > AV node > Atria Systole > bundle branches > Purkinje fibers > Ventricles systole
Where is the pacemaker of the heart located?
sino atrial (SA) node in the right atrium
What is systole?
Contraction of heart
What is diastole?
Relaxation of heart
Describe atherosclerosis
formation of plaque in blood vessels of heart or brain. Plaque occurs when cholesterol settles & accumulates underneath endothelium of arteries/arterioles causing blood flow blockage. cause of heart attack or stroke depends on numbers & location of blockage
Describe 3 most important steps in formation of blood clot
- Platelets adhere to damaged blood vessel
- Prothrombin is activated to Thrombin
- Thrombin removes amino acids from fibrinogen to form fibrin
What is the function of the tricuspid & mitral valves?
- tricuspid valve prevents backflow of blood into right atrium
- mitral valve prevents backflow of blood into left atrium
What is the function of the pulmonary & aorta semilunar valves?
- pulmonary SLV prevents backflow of blood to right ventricle
- aorta SLV prevents backflow of blood to the left ventricle
what make the second heart beat sound dup?
The closing of the SLV valves
Which blood vessel has the highest content of Oxygen?
Pulmonary venules & pulmonary veins
Which chambers of the heart receive blood & which blood vessels enter them?
- atria receives blood
- Right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from vena cava
- Left atrium receives oxygenated blood from pulmonary veins
Which chambers of the heart send blood & which blood vessels leave the heart from them?
- ventricles send blood
- Right ventricle send deoxygenated blood to pulmonary trunk, which sends it to the pulmonary circut
- Left ventricle send oxygenated blood to aorta, which send it to the systemic circut
Right side of the heart carries (oxygenated or deoxygenated) blood?
deoxygenated
left side of the heart carries (oxygenated or deoxygenated) blood?
oxygenated
