What is the source?
the stimulus or idea that makes us want to communicate with others.
What is encoding?
process of putting our thoughts into words
What is a channel?
the medium that a sender sends an encoded message.
What is decoding?
the process the receiver does to decode the message
What is a receiver?
The person who gets the message.
What are barriers?
hinder good communication and can occur anywhere along the communication process.
What are the 8 common barriers?
Unfamiliar language, improper timing, noise/distractions, attitude, differences between people, relationship, filtering, and selective perception.
What is feedback?
a response from the reciever
What are the four directions communication occurs?
Upward (superior), downward (subordinates), laterally (peer), outside (customers, etc..).
What is the grapevine?
informal communication network within an organization.
What are rumors?
unsubstantiated stories that appear to be important, cause anxiety, and are ambiguous.
