Group
A collection of two or more interacting individuals with a stable pattern of relationships who share common goals

Formal and informal

What are formal groups defined by?

What are informal groups?
groups formed to respond to common interests or social interaction.

For security, status, self-esteem, power, goal achievement, and organizational structure.

Forming, Storming, Norming, performing, and adjourning
What is forming characterized by?
caution, confusion, an uncertainty.
What is storming characterized by?
tension, hostility, and intragroup conflict.
What is norming characterized by?
establishing group norms and close relationships
What is performing characterized by?
focusing on the accomplishment of the task.
What is adjourning characterized by?
wrapping up activities and getting closure.
What is a team?
a group who has complementary skills and are committed to a common purpose or set of performance goals for which they hold themselves mutually accountable.
What is synergy?
is building a force that is greater than the sum of its parts.
What are the 5 dysfunctions of a team?
absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of healthy conflict, avoidance of accountability, failure to hold others accountable.
What is the punctuated equilibrium model (PEM)?
It a model that focuses on timing and performance.
When does the transition in PEM occur?
between Phase 1 and 2
What is the midpoint in PEM?
The midlife crisis where the group needs to get in gear.
What are the three team?
problem-solving, cross-functional, and self-managed
What are problem-solving teams?
Teams that are made to solve a specific problem
What are cross-functional teams?
Brings together workers from different areas, functions, and even levels of the organization to focus on a specific task.
