What is a conflict?
a process where one party perceives another party has negatively affected or is about to negatively affect something that the first party cares about
What are the three views of conflict, and what do they believe?
Traditional (avoid conflict), human relations view (conflicts are natural in life), interactionist view (positive force that is needed)
What is assertiveness?
measure of how much you want to have your way
What is cooperativeness?
measure of how much you want another person to get what he or she wants.
What is the avoiding strategy?
Avoiding a conflict.
What is the accommodating strategy?
Making it so the other party is happy.
What is the competing strategy?
Have it your way or win
What is the compromising strategy?
Working out the situation.
What is the collaborating strategy?
Both parties win
What is conciliation?
getting parties to talk about the conflict
What is fact finding?
using facts to solve the conflict
What is fact finding with recommendations?
Having a 3rd party be a fact finder.
What is consultant?
Having a 3rd person involved to assist the parties to move to understanding the conflict.
What is mediation?
Having a 3rd party keeping the other parties talking.
What is arbitration?
Have a 3rd party make the final decision.
