Deinstitutionalization
- close large scale asylums
- people stay in communities and are treated locally
Voluntary (Vol)
person chooses or consents to attend therapy
Involuntary (Invol)
therapy is not the person’s choice
Intake
- assess a patient’s level of clinical needs
- therapist’s first meeting with the patient
Confidentiality
the therapist cannot disclose confidential communications to any third party unless mandated or permitted by the law
Individual Therapy
explore feelings, work and life changes, wishes to change, and set goals to help them achieve this change
Group Therapy
- clinician meets with several other patients with similar problems
- decreases shame and isolation, helps to have insight from others who have the same challenges
Couple’s Therapy
humans in an intimate relationship who are having difficulties and are trying to resolve them
Cognitive Behavorial Therapy (CBT)
changing negative thoughts to positive thinking by the exploration of automatic thoughts to change feelings and ultimately the behavior
Comorbidity
the individual has two or more diagnoses
Cultural Competence
understanding the issue of race, culture, and ethnicity
Multicultural Counseling and Therapy
offer both helping role and process modalities that define goals consistent to life experiences and cultural values of clients
