Diffusion, Osmosis And Active Transport Flashcards
(4 cards)
What is diffusion ?
Diffusion is the net movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration
What is osmosis?
Osmosis is the net movement of water particles across a partially permeable membrane from a region of higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration
What is active transport?
Active transport is the movement of particles across a membrane against a concentration gradient using energy transferred during respiration
How does Active transport in the digestive System work?
If there’s a higher number of nutrients the nutrients diffuse naturally into the blood
Sometimes there is a lower number of nutrients in the gut than the blood
Active transport allows nutrients to be taken into the blood stream despite the gradient is going the opposite way.
