Carbohydrates part of eat well guide
•About 1/3 of all food watsn should be form thsi group•If possibel choose whoelgrain or higher fibre versions with less added fat, salt and suagr•At least own starchy fiod should be included in each meal
Fluids
•6-8 cups of fluid a day e.g water, lower fat milk, sugar free drinks and unsweetened tea or coffee•Fruit juices and smoothies should be limited to 150ml a day
Fruit and vegetables
• About 1/3 of all food should be from this group•At least 5 portions of a variety fruit and vegetables can be fresh, frozen canned etc
Dairy and alternatives
•2-3 foods a day should be from this group •Choose lower fat and sugar options such as skimmed milk or lower sugar yogurts
Protein sources
•Recommend people increase intake beans and pulses•Recommend yay people eat two portions of sustainable sourced fish per weak, one of which should be oily like salmon•Recommend that people eat no more that 70 grams of fresh red meat and processed meat products like sausages and smoked and cured products like salami
Oils and spreads
Recommend that people only eat small amounts of food in these groups and preferably choose unsaturated oils like olive oil and vegetable oils
In written form the dietary guidelines are:
- Base meals on starchy foods2. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables 3.Eat more fish 2 portions weekly and one of the fish should be oily4.cut down on saturated fats and sugar 5.Eat less salt nor more than 6g a day for adults 6. Get active and be a healthy weight7.Drink plenty of water8. Don’t skip breakfast
