Iron from animal sources called harm iron and is easily absorbed by the small intestine:•Red meat•Kidney•Liver•Egg yolk

Called non harm iron and especially needs vitamin C for absorption:•Wholemeal bread•Dried apricots •Green leafy vegetables

•Makes haemoglobin in red blood cells to carry oxygen to all bodies cells to produce energy•Involved in function of many enzymes

•Anaemia- Pales skin, brittle nails and weakness

Iodine function
Makes thyroxine in thyroid gland to control metabolic rate rate of body
Iodine deficiency
Swelling of neck
Zinc sources
Readily absorbed form meat and found in nuts, dairy and breakfast cereals
Zinc function
•involved in metabolism of DNA and RNA
Zinc deficiency
Rare in Uk but a major health issue in developing countries and causes:•stunted growth in children•Poor sense of taste•Dwarfism
