Western prayer book causes

A

Religious grievances. Rebels wanted a reverse on religious change since H8.

1547 chantries act and the 1549 act of uniformity devastated the religious experience within the country.

Also because of Sheep Tax. Insensitive local officials worsened the situation

Common prayer book = ‘A christmas game’

How was the Western Prayer book dealt with

A

Group of english troops and foreign mercenaries dealt with the rebellion. Army under Lord Russel

Ketts Rebellion causes

A
  • Hatred of insensitive government officials (Enclosure commision, yet nothing done.)
  • Resentment of landowners and the Norfolk foldcourse system (right to enclose land)
  • Release of frustrations

How was Kett’s rebellion dealt with

A

1st attempt failed - army under Earl of Northampton was humiliatingly defeated

2nd attempt successful - Army under Earl of Warwick (Northumberland) Kett convicted of high treason and hanged
