Hormones
Chemical substance produced by the body that controls and regulates activity of certain cells and organs
Gland
An organ in the body which secretes particular chemical substances for use in the body
Pancreas
Gland near stomach that produces insulin
What is insulin used for
-control of glucose levels in the body
Pituitary gland
-located at the base of the brain and regulated all the endocrine glands
Adrenal gland
- two glands, one on each kidney
- produce adrenaline (fight or flight hormone)
Thyroid
- located in lower part of the neck
- produces thyroxine
- effects growth and metabolism
Ovaries
- produce oestrogen and progesterone
- also produces eggs
- control breast growth and reproductive system eg.menstration and pregnancy
Testes
Testosterone in males
-effects male characteristics eg.facial hair, puberty changes and sperm production.
Type 1 diabetes
Where you’re body doesn’t produce insulin
Type 2 diabetes
When you’re body attacks/resistant to insulin that your body produces
