What is an ischemic stroke
A
Blood clot blocking oxygen to the brain due to narrowed artery and fatty deposits

What is a haemorrhagic stroke
A
Blood vessel in skull bursts causing a bleed in and around the brain

Causes of a stroke
A
- lifestyle eg. Smoking, high fat diet, high sugar diet, alcohol, obesity, lack of exercise
- over 65 and relative had one
- high blood pressure (haemorrhagic)

Symptoms of stroke
A
- face droops
- cant lift an arm above head
- speech is slurred or gone

Treatment
A
- medication such as altepase, aspirin, warfarin, beta blockers and statins
- surgery to remove blood clot

Support for a stroke victim
A
- feeding tube is difficulty swallowing
- mobility aids eg; wheelchair
- physiotherapy

- difficulty in every day tasks
- depression, mood swings, fatigue
