Participants must know the full aspects of the study to make an informed decision, rather than feeling coerced into taking part in a study that they are not fully aware of.

Participants can leave the study any time (right to withdraw)

confidentiality

A

Nobody outside the experimenters and study should know the names and details of participants, and to which person the results belong.

Due to studies including sensitive data participants should be protected from exposure allowing freedom to be fully honest. If sensitive data is exposed, this may impact participants in daily life jobs, securities ect.

Participant number or fake name may be used
Data must be kept in a safe place, eg a password secured database, and destroyed once finished

deception and debrief

A

This would be to lie or mislead participants in some way
- Withdrawing true aim
- Using conformants
Deception can be used usefully in some studies however has the possibility of participants being in a situation or answered questions they would not initially agree to do so
- Try to avoid
- Should be minor in depiction scale
- Must not results in distress
After the study debriefing must occur, to ensure participants are fully aware of what they took part in and would agree to still be part of the study data.
