PL Exp 2 & 4 sides of house

2
Q

Construction features to look for in: Braced frame; Platform; & Balloon

A
bRaced= giRt;
Platform= sole Plate
baLloon= Ledger board
3
Q

When can the IC (May be Off) order a handline operated into a cellar window from exterior (LW SQUAT Collapse)

A

LW construction cellar fire,
Serious cellar fire,
unable to Quickly access/locate a secondary cellar entrance & unable to advance down the interior cellar stair, Unable to locate any cellar entrance,
Advanced cellar fire,
Trapped member by fire in cellar or endangered due to a Collapse

4
Q

Cellar fire 1st HL position;

What would preclude descent of 1st HL down interior cellar stairs “HHSS”

A

Entrance door that provides quickest access to cellar in order to extinguish the fire.
High Heat at top (NOT BOTTOM) of stairs,
Stability of stairs questionable,
Serious fire condition on initial size up

5
Q

Cellar Fires: Who can reposition the 1st HL if units are unable to locate an interior cellar entrance & there is no other HL available on scene to attempt entry via a secondary entrance? “CO-UFS”

A

Chief/ABC only,
Only HL available,
Urgent given,
First fl withdrawn, upper flrs w/drawn to
Safe area unless portable ladders positioned & readily available

6
Q

2 1/2” HL be stretched for PD fire “Heavy FIGI WIND”?

A
Heavily involved 1st fl fire (NOT CELLAR FIRE) in larger style PD (Queen Anne),
Fully involved bldg,
Increased vol of water needed,
Greater reach of stream needed,
Increased Exp protection needed,
Wind Impacted fire
7
Q

Can members operate in the cellar when HL is being used from exterior into cellar windows (PC ABOVE CHER)

A

NO: Primary Consideration for interior FF’s operating ABOVE - close interior cellar door at top of stairs,
Charged Hoseline protection on floors above,
Exit fire bldg, & seek area of
Refuge

8
Q

2nd Handline at Cellar fires in PDs

A

Initially Charged & flaked outside PD as a BU for 1st HL. If NOT needed for BU it can extinguish any fire that may extend to flrs above or be positioned as per IC. Enough HL stretched for possible advancement into cellar through secondary entrance

How about for Upper floor fires?

A

2nd HL may go to exp if not needed to back up 1st HL or extinguish fire on other floors; 3rd HL as per IC;

2nd Ladder- same as Collapse Ops

12
Q

In what situation would 1st Lad NOT do a primary search of fire floor?

A

Cellar fire when SECONDARY entrance used: 2nd Lad will will VEIS flrs above the cellar. If MAIN ENTRANCE used for cellar fire 1st Lad will maintain door control of main entrance door until charged HL advances via main entrance. Prior to descending into cellar 1st Lad will perform a primary of 1st fl

13
Q

Cellar Fire in PD Main Entrance Stairs Used; 1st Eng descends down interior stairs w/1st HL- what are the tactics for 1st Due Ladder inside team?

A

Primary search of 1st floor PRIOR to descending. 1 FF from FE team may assist Eng w/HL while the 1st floor primary is being conducted by Lad Off & other FE FF.
