14
Q

What is the proper way to place flares

A

With vest worn, before leaving rig light 1 flare & carry it lit to proper distance. Furthest flare/cone is placed 1st w/req’d number of flares carried over. Walk on shoulder or divider facing traffic

15
Q

What is the minimum distance furthest flare shall be placed?

A

Use fastest speed expected (NOT speed limit sign if expected traffic moving faster). Multiply 1st number by 10% and add 60. Ex- 60 mph- 60 X 6 = 360 + 60= 420’

Q

The furthest flare/cone is placed_’ from edge of roadway. the next flare is lit & placed equidistant back to scene of operations moving about _’ further into roadway at each point

A

2’; 2’

17
Q

After traffic is stopped, _ members should place flares/cones

18
Q

Are flares waterproof

How should flares be carried

A

No: secure in a dry compartment

Horizontal position & never look directly at lit flare

19
Q

Flares burn approximately

A

30 minutes

20
Q

Can we operate across a center divider on an express highway

A

Should be avoided, but if absolutely necessary traffic should be stopped in both directions. ASAP the rig on the opposite roadway should leave

21
Q

For elevated/depressed roadways- PL, AL, TL may be used. How shall they be placed?

A

Shall NOT extend beyond shoulder where they could be exposed to moving traffic. AL/TL should be cantilevered parallel to elevated roadway

22
Q

How many vehicles shall be chocked

A

Rig and each car involved in the accident/emergency

23
Q

Fires in the engine compartment- if the hood is difficult to open- what shall be done?

A

Pry up side of hood & operate stream through this opening. Do NOT attempt to operate through front grill

24
Q

What kind of spray shall be used on magnesium fires

A

Coarse spray

25
T/F Ladder company members may be used to operate a 2nd HL to protect victims or to protect extrication procedures
True
26
What must always be checked at car fires At car fires the battery must be disconnected. Remove which terminal 1st?
Trunk for victims or extension Negative terminal must be removed 1st (black)
27
Can we cut any high voltage cables on hybrid vehicles
Never cut any high voltage cables- they are color-coded to warn you. Most are orange, but some are blue. Avoid contact unless the high voltage battery in back has 1st been disconnected
28
Many hybrid vehicles use keyless start systems. Make sure ignition is off & key is at least _' away
At least 15'
29
T/F At a hybrid car fire, always make sure that the high voltage battery case is cooled down to prevent re-ignition
True
30
Be aware of shock absorbing bumpers at car fires. Keep onlookers at least _' away
At least 100' away from front & rear of vehicle fires. Attack in a flank position Garbage trucks- No One allowed within 50' of rear
31
Incorrect motor vehicle fire A. Approach vehicle from the sides & upwind if possible, and position line between motor vehicle & exposures B. Fire in an Eng compartment where hood is difficult to open, operate through the front grill C. Use a coarse spray stream when magnesium parts are on fire. This can be accomplished by removing the tip & partially opening the noz D. At Van fires, the engine cover in the passenger compartment should be removed from the side after the fire is knocked down
B Do NOT attempt to operate through the front grill | 11.1
