2

prolonged reflux may lead to what?

oesophagitis
benign oesophageal stricture
Barret's oesophagus

3

causes

LOS hypotension
hiatus hernia
abd obesity
gastric acid hyper secretion
loss of oesophageal peristaltic function
systemic sclerosis

4

What's Barrett's oesophagus

metaplasia of distal oesophageal epithelium from squamous to columnar

(appears velvety)

5

clinical features

Dx tests

endoscopy

barium swallow: may show hiatus hernia

24hr oesophageal pH monitory + manometry

7

manometry

PPI for oesophagitis - lansoprazole

11

surgery

to increase resting LOS pressure
