Flashcards in Heart Deck (28):
The heart beats an average of what per minute and day?
Average cardiac output?
What kind of pump is the heart?
A dual pump.
The heart consist of what 4 parts?
3. Pulmonary circuit
4. Systemic circuit
What is the heart orientation? Base and Apex?
Lies on the diaphragm, posterior to the sternum in the mediastinum.
Base: Posterior and superior surface of the heart?
Apex: Anterior and inferior, points to left hip, level of fifth left intercostal space.
What forms the inferior or diaphragmatic surface of the heart?
Mostly left ventricle.
What forms the posterior surface or base of the heart?
Mostly left atrium
What forms the anterior or sternocostal surface of the heart?
Mostly right atrium and right ventricle
What forms the right surface of the heart?
What forms the left surface of the heart?
Mostly left ventricle.
What area of the mediastinum carries the heart?
What are the layers of the pericardium?
1. Fibrous pericardium
2.Serous pericardium (a. parietal layer b. visceral layer)
What are the layers of the heart wall?
1. Epicardiam (same as visceral layer of serous pericardium).
2. Myocardium (muscle)
Describe the pathway of blood through the heart.
De-oxygenated blood-->Superior and Inferior Vena Cava and Coronary sinus-->Right Atrium--> Right AV or Tricuspid valve-->Right Ventricle-->Pulmonary Semilunar Valve-->Pulmonary Arteries-->Lungs-->Pulmonary veins-->Left Atrium-->Mitral/Bicuspid/Left AV Valve-->Left Ventricle-->Aortic Semilunar valve-->Aorta
What do the chordae tendineae do? Papillary Muscles?
Chordae Prevent valves from everting. Papillary anchor the chordae.
Atrioventricular valves and Semilunar valves close when?
1. AV valves: During Systole
2. Semilunar Valves during Diastole
Where can you hear the right AV valve?
Inferior portion of the body of the sternum.
Where can you hear the left AV Valve?
Left fifth intercostal space.
Where can you hear the pulmonary semilunar valve?
Second left intercostal space.
Where can you hear the aortic semilunar valve?
Second right intercostal space.
Lub and Dub of the heart correspond to what?
Lub= Closure of AV Valves
Dub= Closure of semilunar valves
What is the fibrous skeleton? Functions?
Connective tissue between atria and ventricles. Separates them, Anchors heart valves, Framework for muscle attachments.
What are the Coronary Arteries? Function?
Right and left. Supplies blood to the heart itself.
What are the branches of the Right coronary artery?
Marginal, and posterior interventricular.
What are the branches of the Left Coronary artery?
Circumflex, Anterior interventricular
What are the three cardiac vein branches? Where do they dump into?
Great, middle, and small cardiac v. Coronary Sinus.
What is the conduction system pathway?
1. SA Node
2. Atrial muscle
3. AV Node
4. Atrioventricular bundle (budle of His)
5. Left and right bundle branches
6. Purkinje fibers
7. Ventricular muscle
