Identifying WBC under Microscope Flashcards
(14 cards)
1
Q
How do you identify a neutrophil
A
- multi lobed nucleus (3-5 lobes) connected by thin strands
- pale pink cytoplasm with fine neutral staining granules
- function = first responders to bacterial infection
2
Q
How to identify an eosinophil
A
- BI lobed nucleus
- cytoplasm is orange
3
Q
How to identify a basophil
A
- nucleus is hard to see clearly due to overlying granules
- cytoplasm contains large dark blue/purple granules
4
Q
How to identify a lymphocyte (B cell and T cell)
A
- nucleus takes up most of the cell
- cytoplasm is a thin rim of pale blue
5
Q
How to identify a monocyte
A
- has to be surrounded by red blood cells
- kidney shaped nucleus
- pale gay/blue cytoplasm
