the first line of defence are physical barriers such as …

epidermis provides waterproof layer as dryness of skin inhibits microorganisms settling and causing infections
hair/cillia
saliva and tears
PH and acidity make it hard for bacteria to grow

what is the bodies second line of defence?

A

these are non specific innate responses such as..

phagocytosis
inflammation which is a physiological respknce to celluar injury
fever as cytokines go to the hypothalamus and tell it to make the body warmer to disrupt the internal environment for pathagons

what is the third line of defence in the immune system?

A

these are specific resistance
they eliminate specific pathagons that have been encountered by the immune system previously
adapted immunity mainly involve two types of lymphocytes B and T cells
