Tissues Flashcards

1
Q

What are Epithilial tissues?

A
  • sheet of cells that cover a bodys surace or lines a body cavity
  • all substanses that leave the body pass through the epithilium

Q

What are the chararistics of Epithilium?

A
  • tightly attached together
  • the apical surface is exposed to the cavity of an internal organ/outside world
  • some apical surface are smooth whilst others are specilised such as cillia / microvilli
  • rely on diffusion from blood supply in thr tissue beneath
  • can regenerate easily if well nourished

Q

What is the diffrence between simple and stratified epithilial?

A
  • Simple means it is a single cell layer and is found where absorbtion, secretion and filteration occurs. Wheras stratified is two or more layers and is found in high abrasion areas for protection.

A
  • air sacs of the lung
  • walls of capilaries
  • slick memebranes which line the bodies ventral body cavities

Q

What are the chararistics of the stratified Cuboidal epithilium?

A
  • two layers
  • the surafce is a cuboid shape
  • base cells vary in shape and size
  • they are found in ducts of the large glands

Q

What are the chararisics of the TRANSISINAL epithilial?

A
  • they are streteched and change shape to allow greater volumes such as the bladder and ureters.

Q

What is the diffrence between ENDocrine and EXOcrine?

A
  • ENDOcrine are ductless glands and hormones will secrete directly into the blood vessels whereas the EXOcrine and glands with ducts that secrete to the epithilial surface and can be both internal and external.
  • Examples of ENDOcrine is the thyroid and adrenals and Liver, pancreas and sweat glands for thr EXOcrine.

Q

Whats the diffrence between Dense and loose connective tissue?

A
  • dence tissue makes up the tendons and ligaments and are made of collegon fibres and makes up the lower layer of the skin wheras loose tissue is softer and is more cells and less fibres such as fat and blood

16
Q

What is the funtion of AREOLAR tissue?

A
  • it is soft and acts as a cusion for organs, it serves as a packing holding them in place.
17
Q

What is the funtions of ADIPOSE tissue?

A
  • this insulates and cushions
  • forms deposits such as the hips ans breasts
  • available for fuel if needed
18
Q

Types of muscle tissue and there funtion?

A

Skeletal- form the flesh of the body, allows for body movemnt and provide axis for contraction
Cardiac- found only in the heart, allows ions to pass allowing for rapid conduction of eletrical imulses
Smooth- walls of hollow organs, stomach and blood vessels, slow contractions propel substanses along a pathway

19
Q

What are the funtions of connective tissue?

A
  • movement
  • maintains posture
  • produces heat
  • facial expressions
  • pumps blood
20
Q

What are the chararistics of nervous tissue?

A
  • these are made up of cells called neurons
  • they conduct eletrochemical impulses throughout the body
  • irritability and conductivty
-neuron strucutres are long and conduct great distances
21
Q

What is the process of tissue repair?

A
  • injury stimulates inflamatomy and immune responses
  • inflamation attemps to prevent further injury
  • immune responce is then targeted against bacteria and toxins
  • regeneration is the replacment of cells with the same sort of cells
  • fibrosis invloves repair by dence conncetive tissue( scaring)
