Tissues Flashcards
What are Epithilial tissues?
- sheet of cells that cover a bodys surace or lines a body cavity
- all substanses that leave the body pass through the epithilium
What are the Funtions of epithilial tissue?
- protection
- absorbtion
- filteration
- secretion
- sensory reception
What are the chararistics of Epithilium?
- tightly attached together
- the apical surface is exposed to the cavity of an internal organ/outside world
- some apical surface are smooth whilst others are specilised such as cillia / microvilli
- rely on diffusion from blood supply in thr tissue beneath
- can regenerate easily if well nourished
What is the diffrence between simple and stratified epithilial?
- Simple means it is a single cell layer and is found where absorbtion, secretion and filteration occurs. Wheras stratified is two or more layers and is found in high abrasion areas for protection.
What are examples of Simple Sqamous epithilial?
- air sacs of the lung
- walls of capilaries
- slick memebranes which line the bodies ventral body cavities
What is an exmaple of the Simple Cuboidal epithilial?
- glands and ducts such as the salivary glands and the pancreas and kidney
what are simple Columnar epithilium and give one example?
- goblet cells that produce lubricating muscous
- digestive tract and mucous membranes
what is the funtion of the PSEUDOstratified columnar epithilium?
- main funtion is for absorbtion and secretion and can be cilliated via the respiritory tract
Where is the Stratified Squamous epithililum found?
- most common and is found in the oesphogus, mouth and outer portion of the skin
What are the chararistics of the stratified Cuboidal epithilium?
- two layers
- the surafce is a cuboid shape
- base cells vary in shape and size
- they are found in ducts of the large glands
What are the chararisics of the TRANSISINAL epithilial?
- they are streteched and change shape to allow greater volumes such as the bladder and ureters.
What is the diffrence between ENDocrine and EXOcrine?
- ENDOcrine are ductless glands and hormones will secrete directly into the blood vessels whereas the EXOcrine and glands with ducts that secrete to the epithilial surface and can be both internal and external.
- Examples of ENDOcrine is the thyroid and adrenals and Liver, pancreas and sweat glands for thr EXOcrine.
What are the diffrent types of connective tissue?
- bone
- cartiliage
- Areolar tissue
- blood
- Adipose tissue
- Reticular connective tissue
What are the diffrent types of cartilage and examples?
HYlAINE cartilage- supports the larnyx and attaches the ribs to the sternum
FIBRO cartilage- vertebral discs
ELASTIC cartilage- external ear
Whats the diffrence between Dense and loose connective tissue?
- dence tissue makes up the tendons and ligaments and are made of collegon fibres and makes up the lower layer of the skin wheras loose tissue is softer and is more cells and less fibres such as fat and blood
