Unconscious learning process. Eg study where subjects are faster with structured than with random sequences even if not explicitly aware of this.

Metacognitive
- high relative engagement at the start. decreases as expertise grows

Cognitive control
- Bell curve, ability to think about it increases and goes away as it automatizes

- increases as expertise develops

Choking under pressure

A

Affected expertise in high stress situation

Expert becomes conscious of ability and tries to use cognitive control. This interferes with the automatized skill which worsens performance
