Lecture 14- Lean innovation LPD Flashcards
(8 cards)
Lean innovation helps companies creates better products faster and smarter by?
-Testing ideas early
-Getting real customer feedback
-Avoiding waste
-Encouraging employees to experiment and learn
Lean product and process development (LLPS) means?
Is the Toyota way if developing new products and services while already thinking how they will be produced efficiently. (not just design the product first, but also the process on how to build it)
Core concepts of LLPS are?
-Grow responsibility expert teams
-Support entrepreneurial system designers – visionary leader guides the whole product vision
-Use set- based concurrent engineering- Explore multiple design options before choosing one
-Create, cadence, flow and pull- align project with capacity and remove information bottleneck
6 principles of LLLP?
-People first- develop people so they can develop a great product
-Understand before executing
-Team sport
-Synchronize workflows- manage incomplete data smartly across teams
-Build in learning- reuse knowledge and document new insights
-Design the value stream- make decisions based on what delivers value long term.
Set based concurrent engineering (SBCE) means?
A smart way to design new products by keeping your options open early in the process. The final decisions are made after you have enough knowledge. For example, if you go for buying a new laptop, you don’t buy the first one you see. You look at several options, compare them to each other and then decide.
Point based concurrent engineering (PBCE) means?
This is the traditional form of product design. You pick one solution early and then try to improve it step by step during the process
Common challenges in Lean production and process development (LPPD)?
-Hard to unlearn old habits
-Short term thinking
-Lack of long-term learning culture
Lean innovation and LPPD gives companies the power to?
-Develop better products faster
-Reduce risk and rework
-Keep learning and improving overt time
