Lecture 15 Flashcards
(8 cards)
What are the two general approaches to diagnose a disease by immunoassays
- testing for specific antigens
2. Testing for antigen-specific antibodies
What is serology most common performed on
Blood samples or the serum or plasma fractions
What is an antiserum
Serum collected from an animal that has been exposed to a particular Ag and therefore contains Ab against that Ag
What happens when you inject an animal with Ab
The Ab becomes the Ag and you can produce Ab against tine injected Ab
What is sensitivity
Probability that a given test will correctly identify animals with the disease
What is specificity
Probably that a given test will identify those animals that do not have the disease under consideration
What is the positive predictive value of a test
Probability that an animal with a positive test actually has the condition for which the test was conducted
Negative predictive value
Probability that an animal with a negative test results is actually free of the condition
