Indigenous nations across the globe are extremely diverse, but share some
overarching common characteristics:
- self-identification as indigenous group
- strong connection to natural resources and surrounding land
- have distinct social,kinship,legal,economic, and political systems
-have distinct culture, language, and beliefs systems
- maintain and develop their knowledge systems and practices as distinct people
