Ed Hirsch- Cultural Literacy:
He believed that everyone should learn the same
set of important facts, stories, history, science, and culture. Knowing the same
common knowledge will help people communicate better. He thought that
schools should focus on teaching this core knowledge to help students succeed.
Parenting and child rearing styles:
this is the way parents raise and discipline
their children (being strict, permissive or balanced). The way a parent acts to
their kid affects how the kids grow up emotionally and socially. Some parenting
styles are better to promote things while others are not.
Socioeconomic Status:
This is a person and their family’s economic and social
position based on their income, education, and their jobs. This influences one’s
access to schools, healthcare and living arrangements- this all affects a child’s
development and opportunities.
Brain Development:
The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that is
responsible for decision making, planning, and controlling impulses. It develops a
lot during childhood, which is why kids gradually get better and focusing and
managing their emotions.
