What are the signs of mastoiditis

A
  1. Obvious swelling over mastoid bone
  2. Cranial neuropathies
  3. Erythema
  4. Postaruricular pain
  5. Deep otalgia pain
  6. Tender over mastoid + cutaneous abscess

What is the treatment of mastoiditis

A

Consider immediate admission
1. IV ATB (cefazolin 0.5-1.5g every 6-8 hours) 2 weeks
2. Middle ear / mastoid drainage

What is the prognosis of mastoiditis

A
  1. Curable with treatment but difficult
  2. Failure of medical therapy requires mastoidectomy
