Memory Flashcards
(12 cards)
WMM components
central executive
phonological loop
visuo-spatial sketchpad
episodic buffer
central executive
manages attention and controls info to and from 3 slave stores in all sensory forms+ cognitive tasks
-limited capacity, can deal with 1 stand of info at a time
phonological loop
auditory info that is coded acoustically
2 second capacity
phonological store- holds auditory speech info+ order it was heard, keeps and stores words you hear(inner ear)
articulatory process-allows maintenance rehearsal, visually presented language is converted to phonological state, can be repeated
visuo-spatial sketchpad
stores/processes visual and spatial info when needed
3-4 object capacity
visual cache- visual info of form and colour
inner scribe-spatial relationships + arrangement of objects
episodic buffer
late addition
facilitates communication between components and LTM
4 chunk capacity
what WMM components are modality free
central executive
episodic buffer
social change-minority influence
draw attention to issue consistency of their position deeper processing of the issue augmentation principle snowball effect social cryptomnesia
conformity+sc
dissent, break majority power and encourages others to dissent, appeals to NSI
-to maintain, conform to new norms via compliance
Obedience+sc
Disobedient role models meant real participants disobeyed once small instructions are obeyed it becomes harder to resist a bigger one
-to maintain, may be laws etc put innplacw to ensure new attitudes etc are obeyed
WMM evaluation
Limitations:people w brain damage, lack of clarity over central executive
Strengths: case studies( patient KF no verbal yes visual info orocessing), from studies that compleyed brain scans, support seperate existances of visuovspatial sketchpad
Inner voice, ear and eye
Voice-articulatory control system
Ear-phonological store
Eyes-visuo spatial
Visuo spatial components
Visual cache
Inner scribe
