- performer adapts to the situation and can behave differently to what they usually do
5
Q
What is the Lewin interactionist perspective?
A
- we have a set of core beliefs (traits) that we are born with
- these determine typical behaviour
- typical behaviour varies depending on environment
- can be impacted by social learning
- B = F (P x E)
- behaviour is a function of personality traits and environment
- predict personality and behaviour in a specific situation

Q
What is Hollander’s model?
A
- personality can be represented by three rings
1 - innermost ring- the core
- the real you and what your true beliefs and values are
- does not change
- stable aspects of your personality, often kept hidden
- difficult to penetrate
2 - middle ring - typical responses
- how individuals usually respond
3 - outermost ring - role-related behaviour
- how an individual responds in specific situations
- might be uncharacteristic behaviou
- most unstable aspect
- does not reflect psychological core
- easiest to change
7
Q
How can interactionist perspective be used to improve performance?
A
- coach understands innate personalities and responses in specific situations and can use it to their advantage
- can predict unacceptable bvehaviour and remove player from situation
- train to cope with specific situations
- teach players to adapt to specific circumstances
- utilise personality to benifit the performace
- provide the performer with a role of responsibility
