What was Britain afraid of? Why?
France taking over the Cape.
At that time the trade between Britain and India was thriving, and British ships were dependant on the fresh produce that the Cape halfway station provided for their sailors.
What did the British do when they feared France taking over the Cape?
They sent 9 warships to take over the Cape.
What happened when the British first tried to take over the Cape?
VOC soldiers fought the British for 6 weeks, but they were defeated. The British took control of the Cape and the sea route to India.

After 3 years, war broke out between Holland and France again. British occupied Cape for a second time.
