Physio Lecture 1 Flashcards
(28 cards)
List the 11 organ systems in the body
Nervous, endocrine, muscular, skeletal, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, immune, reproductive, integumentary
Primary function of nervous system
Collects and transfers info for direct short term change in other Organ systems
Primary function of endocrine system
Communicates via hormones and directs long term change to other organ systems to maintain homeostasis
Function of skeletal system
Supports and protects soft tissues in the body
Function of circulatory system
Transports oxygen, nutrients, and other substances to the cells while excreting waste out
Function of respiratory system
Delivers fresh air into the body while excreting co2
Function of digestive system
Processes food and other nutrients in the body
Function of urinary system
Excretes h2o, salts, and other waste products from blood
Function of Immune system
Defends against micro bial pathogens
Function of reproductive system
Produces sex cells(gametes) and sex hormones
Function of integumentary system
Provides protection from injury and fluid loss. Physical defense against micro organisms
Function of muscular system
Provides movement, support, and heat production
What are the biological levels of organization?
Ooot commas; Organism, organ system, organ, tissue, cell, organelle, macro molecule, molecule, atom, subatomic particles
2 Examples of organ systems and 2 examples of molecules
Circulatory system, integumentary system and h2o and co2
2 examples of tissue and cells
Epithelial tissue, muscle tissue and prokaryotic, eukaryotic
2 examples of macromolecules and atoms
Lipids, carbs and carbon, magnesium
Give 2 examples of subatomic particles and organisms
Electron, neutron and human, fish
Give 2 examples of organ and organelles
Liver, kidney and mitochondria, nucleus
What is a highly supported hypothesis considered?
A theory
What is homeostasis?
Dynamic constancy of the body’s internal environment
What are proteins?
Essential to cell function; they carry out mechanisms
What is metabolize?
Produce atp, build muscle and bone
Negative Feedback Loop (NFL)
A parameter is breached; sensors respond, integrating center sends signal to effector creating a NFL
What is a positive feedback loop?
The same as a NFL but the effector amplifies direction to create a longer term change in parameters
