Flashcards in Pterygopalatine Fossa Deck (22):
1

Pterygopalatine Ganglion

parasympathetic, 3 fibers
Sensory- V2
Pre Para- Greater Petrosal N
Post Symp- Deep Petrosal N

2

Greater Petrosal N

branch of CN7
takes pre para fibers to pterygopalatine ganglion
joins deep petrosal n to make N of Pterygoid Canal

3

Nerve of Pterygoid Canal

ends at pterygopalatine ganglion
pre para

4

Maxillary Nerve (V2)

sensory fibers
enters middle cranial fossa thru foramen rotunda, then pterygopalatine fossa
passes thru inferior orbital fissure to become Infraorbital Nerve

5

Intracranial Branch

from V2
innervates dura mater in middle cranial fossa

6

Ganglionic Branches

from V2
Connects V2 to pterygopalatine ganglion
has some post para fibers

7

Zygomatic Nerve

from V2
splits into zygomaticotemporal and zygomaticofacial
supplies skin over temporal region and cheek

8

Zygomaticotemporal Nerve

from V2
has post para to go to lacrimal gland

9

Posterior Superior Alveolar Nerve

From V2
supplies maxillary molar teeth and and mucosa of maxillary sinus

10

Middle Superior Alveolar Nerve

From V2
Supplies maxillary premolars and mucosa of maxillary sinus

11

Anterior Superior Alveolar Nerve

From V2
Supplies maxillary incisors and canine teeth and mucosa of maxillary sinus

12

Pterygopalatine Part of Maxillary Artery

enters pterygopalatine fossa thru pterygomaxillary fissure
branches follow V2

13

Posterior Superior Alveolar Artery

from Pterygopalatine Part
supplies maxillary molar and premolar teeth, and mucosa of maxillary sinus

14

Infraorbital Artery

From Pterygopalatine Part
splits into anterior superior alveolar a and terminal branches

15

Anterior Superior Alveolar Artery

from Infraorbital A
supplies maxillary incisor and canine teeth, mucosa of maxillary sinus

16

Terminal Branches of Infraorbital Artery

Supply structures of face

17

Descending Palatine Artery

from Pterygopalatine Part
divides into greater and lesser palatine arteries to hard and soft palate

18

Pharyngeal Artery

from Pterygopalatine Part
runs w/ branches of pterygopalatine ganglion branches
supplies mucosa of nasopharynx and sphenoid sinus

19

Artery of Pterygoid Canal

from Pterygopalatine Part
Supplies walls and contents of pterygoid canal and mucosa of nasopharynx, auditory tube, tympanic cavity

20

Sphenopalatine Artery

from Pterygopalatine Part
enters nasal canal thru sphenopalatine foramen
splits into posteriolateral nasal and posterior septal branches

21

Posteriolateral Nasal Branches

from Sphenopalatine A
supplies posterior part of lateral wall of nasal cavity

22

Posterior Septal Branches

from Sphenopalatine A
supplies mucosa of posterior part of nasal septum
