reproduction, growth, and development-plant lab Flashcards
(29 cards)
what kind of plant is a angiosperm? is this a vascular or non-vascular ? where are the ovules located at?
flowering plant , this is a vascular plant, and the ovules are in the flowers
where is pollen produced on a flower?
the stamen
what is the name of the chamber on stamens? what kind of cell division occurs here? are the cells haploid or diploid? what do these cells dev. into?
these chambers are called anthers, meiosis makes haploid cells, and these dev. into pollen
what is the female part of the flower called?
it is called the pistil and has a dilated ovary
what kind of cell division occurs in the ovary and what kind of cell (2n or 1n) is produced ? what do these cells eventually form?
meiosis happens in the ovary producing haploid cells, these cells will eventually become eggs and nutritive cells of the ovules
what does the ovary wall turn into?
fruit
what is the name of the part of the pistil that a pollen grain must alight upon?
stigma
what is the term for the fertilization of the egg to form a zygote, and precursor cell that will eventually form nutritive tissue?
double fertilization
what is the name of the angiosperm nutritive tissue that develops after double fertilization?
endosperm
what is the term for the dilated stem end that supports the flower?
receptacle
what is the name of the outer part of modified leaves that use color to attract pollinators and what is the inner part called?
the outer parts are sepals and the inner part are petals
what two things does the stamen consist of?
filament and anther
where is the pistil located on the flower?
what is the three regions found in the middle of the flower?
in the middle of the flower
a terminal stigma , there’s the ovary where the ovules are stored, and the style that links the stigma to the ovary
what are the sepals collectively called?
calyx
what are the petals collectively called?
corolla
what are the sepals and petals both collectively called?
perianth
what are the stamen collectively called?
androecium
what is the name of the female units that is assembled by the pistil (gynoecium)?
carpel
what is the name of the male units ?
stamen
what is the term for the internal space of the carpel?
locule
what are the two cell nuclei found in the pollen grain?
what do these cells make?
generative nucleus and tube nucleus
the generative nucleus will divide to make two sperm and the tube nucleus belongs to the tube cell
in a pollen tube, what are the nucleus found at the end of the tube and what are the other nuclei?
the ones at the end are tube cell nucleus and the other nuclei are sperm nuclei that do the double fertilization
what is the name for the part of the embryo that will become the shoot and this includes leaves?
epicotyl
what is the name for the region of the embryo “below” the attachment point of the cotyledon? what is the name for the region of the embryo “above” the attachment point of the cotyledon?
hypocotyl and the epicotyl
