He was a leader among literary figures that was interested in the medieval past. created of the modern historical novels his most popular book was Ivanhoe.

emotionalism; created the movement sturm und drang (storm and stress) which was an attempt to shock their contemporaries but put in forbidden things (suicide, illness, duels of men, fascination of death); also created the sorrows of young Werther where he grabs a pistol and kills himself, an injection of his own passion and own experiences

Subjectivity; was a musical composer who dealt with individualism in an extreme form. He created program music which said that music is more than a tone and that there is a sort line that goes with it. Also created the symphony fantastique which was several movements of recurring melody that pulled everything together. “idea fixe”: recurring melody which was the woman he could not have. about a man who takes opium to escape love but only puts himself in a deep sleep to see visions
