Who is responsible for PPE records?
Each member is responsible for their protective clothing and the proper records of clothing and equipment.
Which NFPA records must PPE comply with?
PPE must comply with NFPA 1971, 1981, 1500, and 1851.
How often must the risk assessment regarding PPE be reviewed?
Every 2 years and/or when the 3 benchmarks occur (changes or new selection).
Who is responsible for departmental PPE records?
A St 2 captain is responsible for departmental PPE records.
What must St 2 personnel do regarding PPE?
St 2 personnel will perform and document annual advanced inspections.
When may leather palm work gloves be worn?
During nonemergency activities and no exposure to fire, chemicals, or blood.
How often should advanced cleaning of PPE occur?
Every 6 months or post fire.
What are the water temperature and pH requirements for PPE cleaning?
Water temperature must be less than 105 deg F and pH must be >6.0 and <10.5.
When will company officers inspect their crew’s PPE?
On the first shift of each month.
What should be done with PPE contaminated with CBRN?
It will be bagged and retired/disposed.
What is the service limit of PPE?
10 years.
What are the NFPA standards for SCBA?
NFPA 1981 and 1852.
What cleaning solution is used for SCBA/regulator/facepiece?
Ivory dish soap with water less than 110 deg F.
What is the germicidal solution for SCBA/regulator/facepiece?
1 gal water + 2 tbsp chlorine bleach.
Regulator - 6 pumps in the regulator at 10 minutes soak, rinse in water.
Facepiece - spray + 2 minutes soak then rinse in water.
What indicates a low battery alert for the distress alarm?
Round low battery light at right of HUD will flash for 20 sec, the flash 1x’s /second. Orange lights on the back frame will flash every 2 sec.
Which NFPA’s pertain to breathing air/cascade?
NFPA 1404 and 1989.
How often must the cascade be run?
30 minutes weekly.
How often must the cascade be tested?
Tested every 3 months (NFPA 1404), filters changed at least annually or per manufacturer recommendations.
What are the fire hose stenciled markings?
“year - size - ID# + Color or HP
Ex:18-1-001B or 25-5-001HP”
What are the hose pressure testing requirements?
In April, for 5 minutes:
1-2” and 5”HP = 300 psi,
3” = 250 psi,
5” = 200 psi.
Which fire extinguishers are at ST 4?
CO2 and Class D at St 4
Dry Chem are at City service center.
What are the inspection and testing requirements for fire extinguishers?
CO2 - inspection and test every 5 years; Class D inspect every 6, testing every 12 years.

What is the exception for using the PASS device with SCBA?
