the three part brain Flashcards
(58 cards)
What does the 3 part brain of vertebrates include?
The fore brain, mid brain, and hind brain
What are examples of cortexes?
Cerebellum and cerebrum
What are the two subdivisions of the hind brain?
Medulla oblongata and the cerebellum
What are the two subdivisions of the fore Brain?
Cerebrum and diencephalon
What is the name of the several connective tissue layers that enclose the brain?
Meninges
What kind of centers control does the medulla oblongata have, and where is it located?
Reflex centers control, and the hind brain
What does the reflex centers include that the medulla controls? (3)
Balance , essential rhythms , simple behaviors assos. With pharynx , mouth, upper digestive , respiratory
What is an example of an essential rhythm ?
Heart and breathing rate
What’s an example of simple behaviors controlled by the medulla ? (4)
Sneezing , coughing , vomiting , salivation
What are the two functions of the cerebellum and where is it located ?
Keeps track of body position during motion, and intended motions, integrates the two perfectly. It’s located in the hind brain
How does the cerebellum affect motion?
Makes smooth motions
What reflexes does the mid brain govern?
Visual and auditory response
What is the highest integrative center in the brain of anamniotes (frogs and amphibs)
Midbrain
What’s an example of a visual reflex controlled by the mid Brain?
Pupil dilation in different light
What are the 2 ways that the diencephalon has overall subconscious control over internal function?
Nerves (autonomic nervous system ) and pituitary gland
Where is the diencephalon located ?
The fore brain
What is the highest integrative and memory center for amniotes ?
Cerebrum
What controls the reflex center for chemical senses? What’re chemical senses?
Cerebrum and smell / taste
What is the executive command center for body motion ?
Cerebrum
What do we have senses through?
Sensory dendrites and receptors
What are the specialized cells that activate sensory dendrites ?
Receptors
What are the three kinds of receptors ?
Proprioceptors , Exteroreceptors , interoceptors
What receptor informs the brain of the body’s position and movement in space ?
Proprioceptor
What receptor monitors the body relative to the outside world? (Detects info from the outside world)
Exteroreceptors
