What is primary prevention
Actions aimed at avoiding the manifestation of disease. E.g. vaccinations, nutritional and food supplements, oral health care services
What is secondary preventions
Focusing on early detection of a problem to support early intervention and treatment or reducing the level of harm e.g. screening for bowel and breast cancer, early years health visitor checks, HIV testing services
What is tertiary prevention
Minimising the negative consequences of a health issue through careful management e.g. dietician input on food, stroke rehabilitation
What are the pillars of primary prevention
Actions on the building blocks of community support
Actions on lifestyle risks
Actions on infectious diseases and environmental risks
