What are modifiable determinants
Factors that are malleable and can be altered through interventions, and thus present opportunities to intervene from public health and policy perspectives
Biological what is it and who does it concern
All the individual characteristics of a person that have biological background. Family risk, maturation, health status, birth weight, age, sex, ethnic, special education level, payment of fees and equipment
Behavioural what is it and who does it concern
Those that can be eliminated or reduced through lifestyle or behavioural changes. Alcohol,dietary habits, smoking, job-related,PE, sedentary behaviour, other daily activities.
Psychological what is it and who does it concern.
Persons individual characteristics such as cognitions, beliefs and motivations. Motivation, emotions and feelings, rewards, basic psychological needs, perceived benefits of PA, psychological distress and disorders
Socio-economic what is it and who does it concern
A way of describing people based on their education,income and type of job. Employment levels,parental occupation, hours worked, neighbourhood income, home ownership, education level, payment of fees or equipment.
Socio-cultural what does it mean and who does it concern
Communities or society’s attitudes beliefs,and values related to health behaviour. Family composition, social norms, society composition, religion, seeing people exercise, cultural climate, participation in organised sports, involvement of social contract
Physical what is it and who does it concern
The natural and built environment characteristics. Backyard space, traffic density, street lights, air/noise pollution, weather etc.
Policy what is it and who does it concern
Laws, regulations,policies (formal and informal) and institutional rules. Family rules, time outdoors, recess duration, work hours, mass media campaigns, transportation and travel policies
