Week 12 Flashcards
(15 cards)
Training Situation
The setting(s) in which behavior is initially trained or strengthened
Natural Target or Test Situation
The setting(s) in which we want behavior to occur (natural settings)
Stimulus Generalization
The trained behavior transfers from the training situation(s) to the target situation(s), usually in the natural environment
Response Generalization
Training leads to the development of new behavior that has not been specifically trained
Behavior (Response) Maintenance
The trained behavior persists in the target situation(s) over time
Stimulus Generalization =
Your behavior stays the same … but you can apply it to different stimuli
Response Generalization =
Your behavior changes… whether the stimulus changes or not
Maintenance =
The behavior endures over time and periods of non-behaving (i.e., not using the behavior)
Programming Operant Stimulus
Generalization
Stimulus generalization: the PROCEDURE of reinforcing a response in the presence of a stimulus or situation, and the EFFECT of the response becoming more likely in the presence of another stimulus or situation
4 Main Strategies for Programming Operant
Stimulus Generalization
- Train in the Target Situation
- Vary the Training Conditions
- Program Common Stimuli
- Train Sufficient Stimulus Exemplers
Programming Operant
Response Generalization
Response generalization: the PROCEDURE of reinforcing a response in the presence of a stimulus or situation, and the EFFECT of another response becoming more probable in the presence of the same or similar stimuli or situations
Response Generalization =
The person learns…
there is more than 1 way to do this behavior!
3 Main Stretegies for Programming Operant
Response Generalization
- Train Sufficient Response Exemplars
- Vary the Acceptable Responses During Training
- Use Hi-P Instruction Sequence
Programming Operant Behavior Maintenance
Maintenance: the degree to which behavior change lasts over time; depends on whether the behavior will continue to be reinforced
4 General Approaches for Programming Operant Behavior Maintenance
- Behavioral Trapping:
Behavioral Trap: a contingency in which a behavior that has been established by programmed reinforcers is “trapped” or maintained by natural reinforcers (e.g., teaching my niece to swear!) - Change the Behavior of People in the Natural Environment
- Use intermittent Schedules of Reinforcement in the Target Situation
- Give Control to the Individual
