Week 3 Flashcards
(16 cards)
What are the 5 phases of a behavioural change program?
Screening or Intake, Defining the Target Behaviour, Preprogram or Baseline Assessment, Treatment, Follow-up
What is Indirect Assessment?
Refers to any method of collecting data that requires reflection on student learning, skills, or behaviors, rather than a demonstration of it
What is Direct Assessment
Any method of collecting data that requires students to demonstrate a knowledge, skill, or behaviour
First Type of Indirect Behavioural Assessment Procedure
Interviews:
Goals
* Establish and maintain rapport with the client and significant others
*Identifying target behaviors and controlling variables
First Types of Direct Bhavioural Assessment Procedure
**Experiemmental Assessment Procedures **
* Involves the practitioner manipulating specific variables and measuring the effect on behavior
First Behavioural Characteristic you can Record
Topography
* The specific movements involved in making the
Summarize 3 Stratgies for Recoridng Behavior
Considerations and Techniques
* Identify specific periods of time when target behavior is likely to occur… before going to observe!
* More practical than trying to observe all occurrences of behavior all day, every day
Three (3) Basic Techniques
1. Continuous (event or frequency) recording (everything)
2. Interval recording (time bins)
3. Time-sampling recording (spot checks)
Contionous Recording
* Record EVERY instance of the target behavior during a designated observation period
Interval Recording
* Record whether or not the target behavior occurred during short intervals (BINS) of equal duration (i.e., 10 seconds)
Time Sampling (SPOT CHECK)
* Record whether or not a behavior is occurring during very brief observation intervals that are separated by long periods of time
IOA
- Sometimes referred to as Inter-Observer Reliability (IOR)
- **Involves two independent observers **recording behavior of the same individual during a given session
- Emphasis is on independent observations – observers do not cue one another as to their scoring (e.g., UofM B-Ball)
- After the observation, compare data recorded by the two observers
- Helps to establish whether or not the data collected are reliable (can the data be trusted?)
Calculating IOA
Total count Inter-Observer Agreement (IOA)
* Used with frequency recording
* Calculate the agreement on the total number of behaviors scored
* Percentage of Agreement Inter-Observer Agreement (IOA)
* Used with interval recording
* Calculate the number of intervals in which observers agreed
Second Type of Behavioural Indirect Assessment Procedure
Questionnaires
* Life history questionnaires
* Self-report Problem Checklists
* Survey Schedules
* Third-party behavioral checklists or rating scales
Third Type of Indirect Behavioural Assessment Procedure
Role-Playing
* Re-creation of situation in which problem occurs
* May be used both to assess and treat the problem (e.g., job interview skills)
Fourth Type of Indirect Behavioural Assessment Procedure
Information from Consulting Proffesionals
Consulting proffesionals may include:
* Physicians
* Nurses,
* Physiotherapists
* Occupational Therapists
* Teachers,
* Social workers
* Client permission is required before gathering information from consulting professionals
Fifth Type of Indirect Behavioural Assessment Procedure
Client Self-Monitoring
* Direct observation by the client of his or her own behavior
* Client may monitor overt or covert behaviors
* Can assist practitioner in identifying causes of behavior
Second Type of Direct Bhavioural Assessment Procedure
Computer-Assisted Data Collection
* Tablets and apps for practitioners and clients
* Facilitate self-monitoring and recording of data during observations
* Create summary charts and graphs
Second Behavioural Characteristic you can Record
Frequency (Rate)
* The number of instances of a behavior that occur in a given period of time
