What is a sacrament?
A ritual through which the grace of God can be received
What is the Eucharist?
The service in which congregations share bread and wine in memory of Jesus’ sacrifice
How many Sacraments does the Roman Catholic Church Believe in and what are they? (and technically the Orthodox Church as well)

Although Baptist church doesnt call them Sacraments but rather ordinances
What is transubstantiation? Which Church?
The belief that the bread and wine offered at Eucharist are actually transformed into the blood and body of Jesus
Catholic Church

The belief that Jesus is spiritually in the bread and wine offered at the Eucharist
Anglican Church
What is the importance of the Eucharist?
Reminds them of Jesus’ sacrifice and their salvation
Brings the community closer
Obeys Jesus’ command as it was he who organised this ritual
“All Christians should take the Eucharist” Discuss?
Yes: reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice

Sharing something that goes across time, shows close relationship
Strengthens Christian Community
No: Any act helping a Christian remember Jesus is significant, doesnt have to be Eucharist
Too much focus on the Priest, should be able to access God’s grace directly
Parable of Sheep and Goat: What truly matters for salvation is how you treat others
Salvation Army: Best way to worship God is to fight injustice
Disagreements over it in the Reformation if there was disagreements then clearly not important and maybe all shouldn’t celebrate it
What is Baptism?
Baptism is a ritual or ceremony performed with water which signifies the cleansing of sin and membership into the faith
“All Christians should be baptised” Discuss
Yes: Jesus got baptised (full immersion in the River Jordan by John the Baptist)
Jesus commands his disciples to go to all nations and baptise them in the name of God
Catholics and Orthodox believe Baptism is a sacrament and without it you cant receive God’s grace
Believers Baptism in the Baptist Church is an act to show you were born again- underwater you are dead, but when you come up you are resurrected by Christ - 3 promises ; love God, repent sin, reject evil.
No: Richard Dawkins says infant baptism is child abuse, forcing religion
Jesus was baptised at 30 years old - no child baptism
Pentecostal Church believes you should be baptised by the Holy Spirit
Believers baptism is only for adults
Salvation army believe you can achieve salvation by charity and working for others
