What is Sawm
Fasting during the month of Ramadan which commemorates Laylat ul Qadr
At time where Muslims should go without food, drink and sex in daylight hours
There are some exemptions, pregnant, long travel, ill
Why should a Muslim fast?
Ordered in the Quran
Practise performed by Muhammad
Allah forgives those who fast with a repentant heart
It will help them overcome selfishness and understand poverty
Become obedient
What is done during Ramadan?
Muslims wake up early to eat and drink before the fast
Negative emotions should be avoided
Taraweeh - special prayers - may be said
Poor may be invited in for the iftar meal - ummah
What is done at the end of Ramadan?
The Night of Power is remembered for 10 days
Quran is studied as Muhammad did
Id ul Fitr is celebrated
