Planned emergency often the result of:
Fire or smoke in the cabin, technical failure, or lightning or bird strike.
Knowing what to do to prepare the cabin and the pax makes all the difference.
Communication between Crew is extremely important.
Planned Emergency duration:
Long as an hour or short as 5 minutes

Critically important to:
-practice CRM w/ entire crew
-become familiar with each procedure in the checklist
-follow the checklist in order as time allows
-know the PA’s enough to read them smoothly and with accuracy
Emergency Procedure Objectives:
-identify the 30 second review
-Review planned and unplanned emergency procedures, including ABA briefings
-Identify procedures to follow during episodes of turbulence
-Review how to evaluate conditions and take appropriate action once the aircraft has landed
-identify steps to take post evacuation
30 Second Review
- Brace position and Brace command until aircraft stops
- Evacuation decision
- Assigned exit procedures
- Evacuation Commands
Decompression PA
Pull down on the mask
Remove face coverings and
Place mask over nose and mouth
Breathe normally, the bag may not inflate
Fasten seat belts
No smoking
Unplanned emergencies
Occur without warning-usually on takeoff or landing
Aviation term: Emergency describes any unscheduled landing
Secure the cabin

Crew Questions to Captain:
-Expect a normal landing?
-Want us to prepare the cabin?
-Run planned emergency checklist?
-Instruct pax to brace for landing?
-will we be able to use all exits?
-Will escape slides need to be deployed?
-How long till we land?
Important to always confirm with Captain before preparing cabin for probability of evacuation
Planned Emergency
Step 1- 4 chimes from pilot (landing gear failure)
Step 2-Cabin Crew briefing
Step 3-Pax briefing and Demo
Step 4- ABA Briefing “A”
-ABA Briefing “B”
-ABA Briefing “C”
Step 5-Closing PA and final Walkthrough
Adjust lights to outside conditions
Step 6-Pilot Update (cabin is prepared)
Step 7- 5 minutes to landing
( F/A should be in their jumpseat 5 min before landing)
Step 8- 1 minute to landing
(Continue commands until A/C comes to complete stop)
Step 9-Aircraft stops
(Listen for pilot evacuation decision, it may take up to 30 secs)
Step 10-Pilot orders evacuation
(Flight attendants deliver commands and conduct evacuation)
Step 11-After pax evacuate
Ensure all pax have evacuated
Take emergency equip. As time allows
737-800 Briefing Differences
“B” and “D” will command evacuation at aft exits
-All ABA’s will hold pax back until doors are opened
-If F/A’s injured-# 1 ABA’s will be responsible for aft exits
“C”
-6 ABA’s
-All pax seat in exit row 14
“D” will select 10 ABA’s who will be seated in exit rows 15 and 16
