Q

Steroid receptors

A

Intracellular – in cytoplasm

Bind and change conformation to bind DNA -> translocate to nucleus

Q

Steroids in circulation

A

Binding globulins

Thyroid hormone – thyroid-binding globulin (TBG)

Sex hormones – sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG)

Increase SHBG -> decreased free T -> gynecomastia

Decrease SHBG -> increased free T
Male: no effect
Female -> hirsuitism
