MOA

  • Affinity for cyandie ions
  • Reacts with hemoglobin to form methemoglobin (low toxicity)

  • Cyanide or hyrdocyanic poisoning

Contraindications

  • Not applicable

Adverse reactions

  • Excessive doses can produces severe, life-threatening methemoglobinemia
  • Use only recommended doses

  • None

Dosage

  • Adult and Ped:
    • Breathe 30 seconds out of every minute

  • Variable

Special considerations

  • Preg Cat: C
  • Cyanide poisoning must be recognized quickly and treated quickly
  • If pulse persists, even in presence of apnea, prognosis is good with treatment
  • The antidote kit must be used in conjunction with oxygen therapy
